Agenda of the CC:DA Meetings
Highlights of the CC:DA Meetings in Philadelphia
CC:DA will be receiving significant reports from two Task Forces at Midwinter (see Agenda for projected times).
The Task Force on the Harmonization of the ISBD(ER) and AACR2 will be presenting a final report, making recommendations on the revision of Chapter 9 of AACR2 (Computer Files) in the light of the provisions of the recently-published International Standard Bibliographic Description for Electronic Resources. The
report is available.
The Task Force on Rule 0.24 has been reviewing The Logical Structure of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Part I, which was prepared for the Joint Steering Committee for the Revision of AACR, by Tom Delsey of the National Library of Canada. The Task Force has prepared an extensive set of comments, which will be discussed at CC:DA. The Task Force will also be continuing its deliberations on Rule 0.24 and the organization and structure of bibliographic description. A draft agenda, with extensive discussion documentation, has been prepared for the Task Forces Friday afternoon meeting.
The Task Force on Metadata has also been busy this fall. A summary of its discussions and an agenda for its Sunday morning meeting is available.
New Task Forces Appointed
Two new Task Forces have recently been appointed.
The Task Force on the VRA Core Categories is charged to evaluate the relationship between library metadata (AACR2, USMARC) and the Visual Resources Association/Data Standards Committee Core Categories for describing visual resources collections, and to make appropriate recommendations. The Task Force will be meeting in Philadelphia.
The Task Force on the Revision of AMIM is charged with the detailed review of the draft revision of Archival Moving Image Materials a Cataloging Manual (AMIM). Specifically, the Task Force is charged with noting areas in which AMIM is not consistent with AACR2, particularly in the areas of transcription, uniform title, and main entry.
Logical Structure of AACR
As part of its ongoing mandate to respond to changes in the
bibliographic environment, the Joint Steering Committee for
Revision of AACR (JSC) organized and hosted in October 1997 the
International Conference on the Principles and Future Development of AACR.
As a result of that conference, Tom Delsey (National Library of
Canada) has undertaken, at the JSCs behest, a logical analysis
of the principles and structures on which AACR is based. This
analysis is intended to serve as a tool to assist in the
re-examination of the principles underlying AACR2 and in
setting directions for its future development.
The analytical schema prepared by Mr. Delsey for Part 1 is now complete and available
for review and comment on
the World Wide Web at:
http://www.rda-jsc.org/docs.html#logical
Comments on the schema, and particularly on the key issues and
resulting recommendations, are now being actively
solicited by the JSC. These may be addressed to me, no later
than September 1, 1999, at:
BSCHOTT@LIBRARY.UCLA.EDU,
or in writing at:
