CC:DA Activities at ALA Midwinter Meeting in Boston, MA

The Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access will meet twice at ALA Midwinter 2010.

On Sat., January 16, 1:00-5:30 p.m., the main agenda items include the report from the Representative of the Library of Congress and the Report of the ALA Representative to the Joint Steering Committee. The LC report will include discussion about the "IFLA Names of Persons - United States" document. The ALA Represenative to the Joint Steering Committee will include discussion of the document "Issues deferred until after the first release of RDA", also known as 5JSC/Sec/6/Rev.

On Monday, Jan. 19, 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m, CC:DA will hear reports from the Executive Director of ALA Publishing Services, a presentation on RDA Application Profiles, the Report of the MARBI Representative, a report from the RDA Programming Task Force, and a report on the PCC Guidelines for Multiple Character Sets.

Area 0 of the International Standard Bibliographic Description

The new Area 0 of the International Standard Bibliographic Description has been published on the Web.

Area 0: Content Form and Media Type Area is an amendment to the International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD). This new area of the bibliographic description takes the place of the general material designation (GMD) in area 1. It is being issued with a set of examples. Area 0 will be incorporated into the consolidated ISBD for its next revision in 2010.
