Agenda of the CC:DA Meetings in Denver, CO

Full draft of RDA: Resource Description and Access available for comment

The Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA (JSC) is pleased to announce that the full draft of RDA is now available for constituency review at: www.rdaonline.org/constituencyreview. The text of the draft is given in a series of PDF files for each chapter.

For background on the constituency review, as well as links to supplementary documents, see the Cover letter [PDF format]

The deadline for constituency responses was 2 February, 2009, to allow time for the comments to be compiled for consideration by the JSC at their meeting in March 2009. Comments on the draft from within the United States were due to the ALA/ALCTS/CCS Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access (CC:DA) by December 15, 2008, in order to allow them to be incorporated into the ALA response by February 2.

JSC Meeting in Chicago

The Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA (JSC) met in Chicago, from March 12-20 2009. The Committee of Principals for AACR and the Co-Publishers also met in Chicago during this period, and there was a joint meeting to discuss the RDA project.

The initial outcomes for the meeting have been published.

ALA Rep to the Joint Steering Committee RDA Blog

John Attig, ALA Representative to the Joint Steering Committee, has set up a blog where he has posted reports relative to RDA and his activities during the JSC meeting held in Chicago. He has posted some of the decisions he has made in the process of compiling the ALA response to the RDA full draft. Note that the purpose of the blog is to communicate quick reports on the activities of the meeting and the ALA response to RDA; the blog accepts comments, but it is not meant to replace the normal CC:DA discussion concerning RDA or any other ALA Representative-associated activity.

It is possible to subscribe to the blog through its built-in RSS capability. The email address for the blog is: http://www.personal.psu.edu/jxa16/blogs/resource_description_and_access_ala_rep_notes/.
