DRAFT Agenda of the CC:DA Meetings
CC:DA Activities at ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans
The Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access (CC:DA)
will have three meetings at ALA Annual in New Orleans.
All meetings will be in the Marriott, in LaGalerie 2.
If you can fit CC:DA meetings or at least the RDA Forum into your busy ALA schedule, please do so.
On Friday, June 23, 1:30-5:00 p.m.,
there will be a discussion of the draft of part 2 of RDA, which is
scheduled for release by the JSC sometime about a week earlier.
Because the Forum on Series Authority Records will be held at 4:00 p.m. in
the Morial Convention Center (Room 386/387), the
CC:DA meeting should end by 3:50 p.m., since many CC:DA
members and other persons attending the CC:DA meeting will want to attend the Forum.
On Saturday, June 24, 1:30-5:30 p.m., the main agenda item
until about 3:30 p.m. will be the report of the ALA Representative to Joint Steering Committee, Jennifer Bowen,
who will report on the April JSC meeting.
The ALCTS RDA Update Forum will be between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m.,
in the Morial Convention Center, Room 295-296.
On Monday, June 26, 8 a.m.-12 p.m., the main agenda item will be
more discussion on the draft of Part 2 of RDA.

CC:DA Activities at ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio
The Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access met during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio, TX.
The major business was consideration the draft of Part I of RDA,
which had been distributed for comment by the Joint Steering Committee (see the announcement).
On Friday, January 20, at 10:30 AM, there was an open discussion of the draft.
At the CC:DA meeting on Saturday, January 21, Jennifer Bowen, the ALA Representative to the JSC
reported on the October JSC meeting; she described the background and context in which the draft was developed,
as well as the decisions that the JSC has made about the content of Part I.
Jennifer and Barbara Tillett, the Library of Congress Representative to the JSC, also participated
in an Open Forum on RDA.
Finally, a major part of the CC:DA meeting on Monday morning was devoted to a discussion of the draft.
More information about RDA: Resource Description and Access and the draft of Part I is available
in the announcement and in the links provided there.
In addition to the discussion of RDA,
the meetings included reports from the Library of Congress representative, Barbara Tillett,
and from CC:DA Task Forces on Rules for Technical Description of Digital Media,
on the ALCTS publication Differences Between, Changes Within,
on the revision of Cataloging Microform Sets, from the MARBI Representative;
and an update from Don Chatham, from ALA Publishing Services.

RDA: Resource Description and Access Open Forum at ALA Annual in New Orleans
If you have questions about Resource Description and Access (RDA),
come to the RDA Update Forum at the ALA Annual Meeting in New Orleans.
The RDA Update Forum is not a CC:DA meeting. The RDA Update forum is
an informational meeting about Resource Description and Access (RDA)
that will be held at the Morial Convention Center (MCC) in rooms
295-296 on Saturday, June 24, 2006, from 4 to 5:30 P.M.
The format is designed around your questions. However, Jennifer
Bowen, ALA's representative to the Joint Steering Committee (JSC),
will provide a brief update on the status of work on Resource
Description and Access (RDA) to start the meeting. After that, Bowen
and others from the JSC, will answer your questions about RDA.
The JSC has an RDA FAQ online at
http://www.rda-jsc.org/rdafaq.html
The forum is sponsored by the ALCTS Cataloging and Classification Section.
