CC:DA/A/Action List/36

April 17, 1998

Action List

  1. John Attig, Coordinator of the CC:DA Web Site, described his work on the new CC:DA home page.  CC:DA discussed issues related to the posting of CC:DA documents on the Web site.  The Chair, Daniel Kinney, reported that an informal review group was organized to look over changes and additions to documents before they are added to the ALA server.  The group consists of Laurel Jizba, Daniel Kinney, Brian Schottlaender, and Mark Watson.

    [Minutes]

  2. Brian Schottlaender, ALA Representative to the Joint Steering Committee, reported on the International Conference on the Principles and Future Development of AACR.  Several items that have implications for CC:DA resulted from the conference.  The PCC will petition for representation on CC:DA, and CONSER will present rule change proposals through CC:DA.  Rule 0.24 needs to be studied in light of the content vs. carrier issue.  The JSC would like CC:DA to take the lead in this matter.  CC:DA voted to form a task force on Rule 0.24.

    [Minutes]

  3. Brian Schottlaender provided CC:DA with an update on the status of the rule change proposals that CC:DA acted on at Annual in San Francisco. CC:DA  approved the following proposals for rule changes at the 1998 Midwinter Meeting:

    3JSC/LC/26/LC  follow-up
3JSC/LC/30 (CC:DA reaffirmed its support of proposed text B)
3JSC/LC/32 (with the addition of an alphanumeric example)
    3JSC/LC/37/CCC response/LC  response
    3JSC/LC/39/LC  follow-up
3JSC/LC/40 (CC:DA reaffirmed its support of proposed text B)
    3JSC/LC/42/LC follow-up
    3JSC/LC/45

    [Minutes]

  4. CC:DA endorsed the withdrawal of 3JSC/LC/43 as put forth in 3JSC/LC/43/LC follow-up.  CC:DA proposed a definition of “monographic series” for Appendix D as the ALA response to 3JSC/LC/46. The CC:DA definition reads “Monographic series: A publication issued in successive parts and intended to be continued indefinitely, each part of which has its own title proper and a title proper applying to the publication as a whole.” The committee voted to post the definition on the CC:DA list and hold an electronic vote on the definition to allow sufficient time for the representatives to the committee to discuss the proposal with their constituencies.

    [Minutes]

  5. CC:DA heard reports from the chairs of two task forces that held organizational meetings at Midwinter.  Sherry Kelley chairs the CC:DA Metadata Task Force, which was expanded to include members of MARBI, and Lynne Howarth chairs the Harmonization of ISBD(ER) Task Force. Recommendations for items to be included in the task force charges will be forwarded to the Chair of CC:DA.

    [Minutes (Metadata)] [Minutes (ISBD(ER)]

  6. Martha Yee reported on the work of the Task Force on Conference Proceedings II, which she chairs.  The task force will complete its final report before Annual.  The report will be put on the CC:DA Web site for discussion.

    [Minutes]

  7. Daniel Kinney described the joint CCS/CC:DA preconference “What in the World … Cataloging on an International Level,” which will be presented in Washington on Friday, June 26, 1998.  A summary program will be presented on Saturday, June 27, 1998 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.

    [Minutes]

  8. CC:DA heard reports from Barbara Tillett,  Library of Congress Representative; Catherine Gerhart,  MARBI Representative; and Glenn Patton; OCLC Representative.
